Finishing the basement in our Milton MA home has been on our list to-do’s for quite some time now. While we were in the process of shopping and researching, we knew exactly what we were looking for out of the currently unused basement space. Hi my name is Debby and I am a full time mom / nanny! I work out of my home and it always seems to be a disaster! My house always seems to look like a daycare and that the toddlers took over and now rule my castle! I love having company on the weekends and it just seems like I have to spend an entire day to clean my house to have a glass of wine with my girlfriends! Now that winter is approaching and the kids will mostly be in the house. I asked myself, what I can do to separate the Nanning life from my personal life. Then it hit me, as the toy dinosaur came flying across the room and nailed me in the head!!! I have a huge unfinished basement that is just a big empty wasted space! Let’s finish the basement. Living in New England on the South shore I went online in search of Basement Finishing companies in my area! I continued doing my research and reading more facts they had on their website. Something I came across which was news to me, was that there are many factors that need to be considered when finishing a basement in New England. Such as Humidity in the summer and flooding in the winter! These are huge culprits in New England that contribute to mold and mildew! BUT what I didn’t know is that the only way these nasty things can grow in your basement is if you have the wrong materials down there for them to breed off of!!! So I recommend doing your research and getting all the RIGHT information when thinking about a basement finishing project! After I decided to move forward I met with the owner Steve at my home! He was very friendly and understanding and took the time to help me envision my project every step of the way. We ended up designing the perfect spot for me and my little tots to hang all day and not have to step foot upstairs!!! We designed an open layout with a large play area for all the toys. Then on one side of the room there is a kitchenette area with a refrigerator and sink and a small table and chairs for snack and lunch time! Can you say easy clean up! We also added a small half bath which is very necessary! Then finally, we added a small room to the side with a TV and a bunch of bean bags for movie and story time (my favorite)! I couldn’t have asked for a better finished space for myself and my little kiddies! Now it doesn’t only feel like my work and personal life are separate! It feels like I have a professional work space/ home office! No more stepping on Legos or cleaning up mac and cheese off the kitchen table or pulling toys out of the couch just to have company over! All thanks to KAKS Basement Finishing and Design! It wasn’t cheap but now it feels like another level of my home and a safe environment for my kids! NOT a big empty smelly space anymore! What a great investment! I am one happy nanny and my kids love the finished space even more!

This finished basement in Mashpee Massachusetts was finished about 5 years ago using wood studs, fiberglass insulation & drywall.

Here’s the story.

The homeowner called us and asked if we would be interested in taking a look at her basement. After our conversation we decided to go to Mashpee Massachusetts to evaluate the space. During the evaluate I met with the homeowner and her parents. She explained that they would like for the parents to be able to utilize the existing space in the basement. Because they were getting older and the house that they are currently living in is getting to be just too much, and the homeowner would feel a lot more comfortable knowing that her parents were with her and she would be able to care for them. Their initial ideas was to use the existing space and maybe just configure it a little bit different adding a bathroom a Living room etc but they had concerns. (Mold) the homeowner explained that she had the space built about five years ago using a general contractor, after just a short time she never used the space because she complained about slight headaches and could smell a musty moldy smell. She went on to explain that she did not feel comfortable having her elderly parents living in a space with these conditions, so how do we fix it? I explained to her that the materials used in the basement by the general contractor were the wrong materials to use, and the only way to get rid of it would be to start over and rip it all out. This is not what she wanted to hear, she was devastated, I spent all that money with the general contractor and now you’re telling me that it is no good? As we concluded I told her that I would come up with a price to refinish the space with everything that she asked for. About 3 days later I gave her the price immediately she asked if we could meet again. I said sure not a problem would you like to meet in our showroom in Hanover Massachusetts? She replied with yes that would be great. As it turns out her parents are from Hingham Massachusetts the next town over how convenient. After reviewing the layout, pricing and materials they decided that the best thing to do was to start over from scratch & move forward with Kaks. They signed on the spot.

Spring… I know we all can’t wait for it to get here every year. Goodbye snow… I love seeing it melt. Can’t wait for grass growing, flowers blooming, longer days, more sunshine, we all have so many plans for Spring. Spring cleaning is definitely on my list and after the long winter we’ve had, I’m looking forward to getting down into my basement and finally cleaning it out. Living in Norwell Massachusetts i know how important it is to keep an eye out for any cracks or leaks in a basement, especially with all the snow melting around the foundations outside, and I for one, will be moving out most of my useless storage and preparing the space for a Basement finishing.
